THE MAGNETONES
The Magnetones are an instrumental ensemble founded in Philadelphia by trumpeter and composer John Slavin. His sound took shape across two cities and a continent. Growing up immersed in Philadelphia’s indie rock and jazz scenes, he later spent a decade in Austin, where the city’s eclectic music community and a summer studying music in Ghana left a lasting mark on his ear for rhythm. Funk and soul records were the through-line, the gravity that pulled everything else into orbit.
When Slavin returned home to Philadelphia, that mix of influences became the spark for something new. The Magnetones draws from classic soul, New Orleans funk, West African highlife, indie rock, and psychedelic fusion, channeling these threads into music rooted in rhythm, interplay, and live energy. Built as a tight seven-piece ensemble, the band features trombonist Harry Forlenza-Bailey, guitarist Thom McCarthy, keyboardist Joe Veltri, bassist Chris Baglivo, drummer Austin Marlow, and percussionist Jeramy Cohen, each bringing their own musical history into the mix.
The Magnetones’ work is defined by forward motion and collective listening, whether in the studio or on stage, where the band thrives on improvisation and the pull of a deep groove.
SILAS PIPER
Silas Piper is more than a pop artist—he’s a global storyteller. Raised across cultures and rooted in sound, Silas crafts music that speaks to the in-between: the diasporic, the displaced, the dreamers. Drawing from a life steeped in movement and meaning, his songs pulse with live energy, raw musicianship, and emotional depth.
From picking up a guitar at age 5, writing by 10, and performing publicly by 12, Silas has always treated artistry as a sacred craft. By 15, he was professionally recording and touring as a core member of the Rock & Roll band Lone Tree, where he spent six years as guitarist, songwriter, and backing vocalist. That journey led him across borders—from fully-funded performances in Germany to sharing stages with thousands at Oktobafest 2022, and opening for Nigerian sensation Fave at Thrift Social Nairobi.
A true performer at heart, Silas blends improvisation with precision, breaking the fourth wall and bringing audiences into his world. His work is international in sound and spirit—merging pop with global influences and always grounded in substance. With collaborators including Grammy-winning writer Bensoul, Silas Piper is building a discography that transcends genre and geography.
