KATIE NEARY QUARTET
Katie Neary is a jazz saxophonist, composer, vocalist, and violinist based in Philadelphia. Originally from Lower Merion, she currently attends the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. Through composing, performing, and organizing behind the scenes, Katie is driven to create a more connected world through music and the arts. At Temple, she studies with Ted Nash, and in past semesters has studied with Tim Brey, Chelsea Reed, Tim Warfield, Vicente Archer, and her greatest mentor, Dick Oatts. In June 2025, she was honored to participate in the Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency. This two-week intensive composing residency culminated in a performance of original music in front of hundreds on the main-stage of the Clifford Brown Festival in Wilmington DE. In September 2025, she embarked on her semester abroad at the prestigious Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she learned carnatic rhythms and polyrhythms, participated in ensembles ranging from Flamenco to free improvisation, and composed and recorded music that encapsulated her experience abroad. Back in Philadelphia, she currently performs with her own jazz group, the CK Steppers, Temple ensembles, and Blocofunk––a Philly funk and samba fusion band, and she is the liturgical violinist for St. John Vianney in Gladwyne.
